What happens with my data?

Regardless of your business or industry, your data security is our concern. Surplus Buyers offers a range of reliable options including on-site or remote Hard-Drive Data Erasure to DOD 5220.22-m standards, mechanical shredding of hard drives and tape media, and erasure or destruction of client data on computers, copiers, printers, networking IT, cell phones and PDA's.

What do you do with the equipment you collect?

All equipment we receive is either reused, or recycled into commodities (plastic, metal, circuit boards, etc.) and sent for processing by responsible recycling facilities.

Is my electronic waste going to end up in developing countries?

No. As an e-Stewards electronic recycler, we comply with the e-Stewards recycling standard which prohibits the export of e-waste to developing countries. In addition, export of e-waste to developed countries is strictly controlled in conformance with the Amendment to the Basel Convention and other existing laws.

How does Surplus Buyers ensure that I am 'environmentally compliant'?

Surplus Buyers is part of an elite group of North American e-Stewards electronic recyclers that uphold the highest standards of environmental responsibility. Compliance to the e-Stewards standard ensures that your company's information will be properly sanitized and that all your electronics will be disposed of in compliance with local, state, national, and international guidelines.

What documentation is provided to ensure me that everything is done correctly?

For each shipment we provide recycling documentation. This manifest includes a list of all equipment received detailing equipment class, manufacturer, model, serial number, and asset tag (if present). In addition, we track all manifested items received from our customers and record the final disposition and services performed on each item.

What about data security and hard drives?

Data security and sanitization is one of the most important issues companies face today. Surplus Buyers performs data sanitization with specialized disk wiping software to ensure proper erasure of your corporate data. Our standard data erasure, which can be performed on-site or off-site, meets Department of Defense 5220.22-m 3-pass standards and completely erases all data from the hard drives. In addition, Surplus Buyers can also accommodate on-site and off-site hard drive destruction (drive shredding). Our knowledgeable recycling staff will work with you to understand your unique data security requirements and develop a solution that meets your needs.
